We were drying mushrooms for a full week, with a sort of assembly line system involving several screen windows and the oven...but now they're done. \o/

Anyway, Yuletide! I definitely want to nominate and request Flemington by Violet Jacob, because it is very slashy and there needs to exist fic for it. Link goes to my review for it.

I don't actually feel the need to request/offer Flight of the Heron since I'm writing so much for it anyway, but maybe it would be good to do it anyway for fandom promotion? Although I see that I completely missed the fandom promotion post, which has been up for almost ten days already. /o\ Did any of you other fans post in it?

Hmmm, what else? I'm not that much inclined towards fic for the other Broster books, I think. Possibly Naomi Mitchison's Travel Light, since I recently reread that?

I guess my problem is that I've been so monofannish this year that when I look at my earlier Yuletide requests, I just feel kind of meh about them, because it's been so long since I thought about those canons?

How about you, do you know what you're going to nominate/request?

Hee, we do the window screen drying rack thing also! But we had such a bust this year, zero mushrooms, very depressing.

What? How has it been TEN DAYS?! I was going to post a thing to it, and I have it open somewhere in my sea of tabs, but I suspect that train has sailed, especially since I don't plan to sign up for YT.

Yay for mushrooms! :-D

Time is completely compressed, slanted, slashed, squeezed and otherwise just wrong.

I have done a fandom promo for Flight of the Heron (here), and am planning to nominate it!

Other than that, I've been going through the books I've read this year... The list is not finally decided yet, but I agree about Travel Light :) Ooh, and I'm very excited to see that someone else is nominating Lolly Willowes, I thought I was the only one being fannish about that book.

:D

Oh, I'm glad to hear you like Lolly Willowes! It is such a good book—and I agree about the wonderful vivid nature imagery. (Did you ever get round to Summer Will Show and The Corner That Held Them? I've read both and think they're very good, although quite different from Lolly Willowes. Kingdoms of Elfin is also excellent—probably my favourite of her books so far).

It's one of those books that's fairly complete in itself, and not obviously inviting fic (the one I've written was a crossover with JSMN), although I think there are possibilities in Laura's post-canon life and exploring the fantastical world further.

I was not initially planning to nominate/request Flemington, but listening to your librivox audiobook is changing my mind :D So much slashiness in there I didn't notice when I first read it. (I mean, I did notice a lot of slashiness, of course, but there's even more that I missed.)

I also have Patrick O'Brian and CS Forester (Hornblower books) on my yuletide list, but can't make up my mind about any of DK Broster's books. In most cases (except FotH) I feel like her novels already contain everything I want from the story, so I don't really feel the need to read or write fic...

Most years my modus operandi has been: 1) notice nominations are open and make a long list of everything that interests me, 2) forget to make nominations, 3) notice signups are open, 4) realise I cannot come up with enough fandoms to offer, 5) wait until the following year and repeat the same mistake!
