My most popular scientific article has about twice as many hits (14 000) as my most popular AO3 fic, at 7,500 hits! *boggles*

This article is a collaboration with two biologists from 2016, and not a pure maths article, which would have a tiny amount of hits. Ha ha, I barely do research anymore, but it's nice to know I've had some impact...

It is The End and the Way, for The Left Hand of Darkness. Twice as many hits as anything else! I guess it was a popular Yuletide story.

Hmm, are there? I actually don't know which demographic is bigger--I guess it depends on who counts as a scientist.

Also, I wonder which is largest: the average number of hits on scientific articles, or the average number of hits on fanfics on AO3. Though the former is probably impossible to calculate!

As far as competing statistics go, academics are definitely interested in tracking the reach of their work. I follow one fandom statistician, destinationtoast, who's poked at a range of statistical questions and posted 105 comments:
