OMG, there's a new Karine Polwart album out. It's lovely, with just voice and piano. Aaagh, her voice.

Thank you for the heads-up! I have liked her ever since discovering her with Evergreen (2010).

I think I heard her for the first time when she was in Malinky and they were touring in Sweden

I forgot she was in Malinky! I got them from [personal profile] nineweaving. Nice on the signed CD.

It's absolutely gorgeous! Some lovely nature imagery, of course, and the simplicity of the voice and piano works very well. I especially like the poetic geology in 'Siccar Point', which I've just listened to. Lovely.

Karine's voice is so rich and free and extra.

She puts me in mind of Claudia Schmidt -- local hero when I first heard her 40 years ago. (mind boggles). She plays guitar and dulcimer, wandering freely between folk and jazz.

Both of them have such an effortless range. My experience of singing is like traveling a well-cleared woodland trail. Their voices sound like they're flying 8 meters above the ground.

Yep, she left after that disc. She's wonderfully present on their first album "Last Leaves."
