1 Feb -- 100ish words on a comment/beta/draft response thing. Also did some thinking about other stories in my head, and picked a prompt for the Silmarillion Writer's Guild New Year's Resolution challenge. Which happens to match up nicely with the new Fan Flashworks challenge.

Tonight I went through and evaluated every usage of the words very, rather, quite, and really in my novel, and removed or replaced with more precise language at least ninety percent of them. I should probably do this again when I have a final draft-- I write with my ear, and so there are a lot of small qualifying words which contribute to the rhythm, but not to the meaning. Shockingly, removing them and rephrasing tends to make the rhythm stronger, too, who'd have thought.

This does not feel like real writing, since it was choppy and discontinuous and mostly involved removing words instead of adding them, but it needed to be done, it took an hour, and I think it had better count.

That definitely counts! I think my most overused phrase is “a little”, which can often just be removed...

I already missed day 1 as things were chaotic. /o\
I'm currently writing an exchange fic for My Slashy Valentine which has been rather recalcitrant for the longest time and is only behaving since the day before yesterday. I'll have a hard time to reach the deadline (7th) but got an extension already, but it's still not a very cooperative fic.
Anyhoo, 1,4k for the 1st for my tally, with my today's tally probably following tonight, or perhaps tomorrow - I'm an extreme night owl and mostly post my tally on the day after, as I often write very late but am offline at this point, not wanting to go online again for sleep hygiene reasons. This also worked well with most overseas (for me) hosters, and I hope it won't be a bother for you. You definitely don't need to put me into older posts; the next one is always perfectly fine - I think all of us who hosted before tried that at first and eventually realised it's getting complicated at some point. ^^

\o/ Hi, me! ~500 words today, which is my goal for the duration of the thing-- and I think I'm going to try to do 500 and not more than 500, because I think sometimes when I run ahead I end up writing all of the stuff that I had a clear image of for the next little bit of the story, and then run out of stuff where I know exactly what's going to happen, and then stop writing for days/weeks because I need to actually sit down and think about exactly how things are going to happen for the next little bit, which is easier to procrastinate on than actually writing... whereas if I keep it to 500 words, if I'm amped up and want to do more, I can put that energy into outlining/researching/thinking about the medium-term of what's coming.

Dropping in for Days 1 and 2, progression on the same things I was doing last month - tiny fiction, weekly posting, and trying to figure out what the blank I'm doing with an assignment, but there was forward motion in that idea, so hopefully that means guard motion for the rest of the work.

Feb 2: I finished my double drabble yesterday, but am second guessing myself as to its suitability, so have written half of a replacement gift today. Also completed the last two snowflake challenges, so that's officially done.

Day 2: 282 words on WIP 1 as I attempt to sort out how to approach the last third of this fic, and 1,675 words on WIP 2 as it's blessedly dialogue heavy.
