18 Feb -- 100 words on a first stab at the new SWG challenge.

Feb 19th - 500 words, 5 Doctor Who drabbles.

An exact wordcount, of course! : )

Naturally! A couple were even 100 words first try, no editing required.

Same as yesterday: a few notes to WIPs I'm thinking about tackling in the next weeks, lots of revies and writing-related comments to friends. Also, lots of plotbunnies hopping around after reading the fest prompts. ^^

I hope one or more of the bunnies finds a good home. : )

Day 18: 300 words

Day 19: 500 words so far

Almost back on track to where I wanted to be this month. If I write 1500 words today and tomorrow I will have caught up! And since I am writing instead of editing at the moment, that seems doable. Though I do have a certain number of anachronisms to edit out ;)

The writing is obviously more important than the check-ins! \o/

Haha, yes, I suppose I did root out some anachronisms. : )

I wrote! Caleb is trying to explain to his friend the newly awakened Civil War soldier that men in 1960s America do not kiss each other! in public! ever! and the soldier is willing to go along for politeness' sake but also very confused.

Well done with the writing! This story sounds like twice the work to me, because you’re writing historical fiction in two respects: both the civil war character and the 1960s…

ETA: Just to clarify, also like a very appealing idea! But lots of work, wow.

When the story idea was but a baby idealet, I intended the time gap to be 1918 to 2018. But then I realized that the historical contrast was MUCH more interesting between 1865 and 1965 (because it's the opposite of what many readers will expect; Russell is going from an era that permitted a lot of physical affection and emotional closeness between men to the peak of Chilling Five Feet Apart Because We're Not Gay) and, uh, accidentally doubled the work for myself.

Feb 19: Today is a travel day, but 300 words of FotH OT3 before I started packing.

Oooh, looking forward to eventually reading that! \o/

It's still all disconnected random fragments, but maybe someday it will grow up into something. :-)

Day 19: Back to the ghost WIP! 750 words.

Day 19, my husband read the story I'm planning to submit next and had some pretty, um, pointed problems with the plot, which sent me into a meltdown about how I suck as a writer. Meltdown over, I sat down and edited the crap out of the story. He's going to re-read tonight to see what he thinks. He's not a spec fic reader, in general, and is mostly a movie guy anyway, but if he didn't understand something fundamental to the world I'd built for the story, that meant a lot of other folks also might not get it. I read so much spec fic myself that I forget that what's second nature to me--stuff I just take for granted as understood-- is not necessarily obvious to people who don't read spec fic on the regular, so it's really good to have him read stuff, but it also makes me doubt my writing abilities. *sighs* Still, onward and forward!

Aww, I'm sorry about the self doubt! That can be tough. : ( But it sounds like you're handling it well, at least.

Spent most of the day packing and cleaning the mountain cabin we have lived in for three weeks, and then sitting in a car. I was a passenger, but the radio was on much of the time, so could not write. Managed 300 words in the evening. Total wordcount: 17,700. Gah, tired now.

20th: a small amount of rewriting on a thing I got back from beta (which I then sent to second beta), and 941 words on a different thing. :-)

No writing on Day 19. Spent the day reading the entirety of a 373-page novel I've been meaning for years to read.

Well, sometimes we need a break. What novel was it? *curious*

It's got a title that looks like a death!fic warning. It's a novel of speculative fiction set in the near future: They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera.
