I think it probably depended on class, and on how much you were dressing up? I think ordinary clansmen just wore a shirt and a great kilt/belted plaid. But yeah, I've definitely also seen pictures where they wore a waistcoat and/or something more. There's also the paintings of BPC in Highland dress, which have a lot of added bling. *g*
