Title: Shot
Characters: Bob Fraser gen
Rating: PG-13
Prompt: fall
Length: 100 words
Summary: Fork-in-the-road AU for the pilot.
Notes: I wanted to try writing a classic drabble of 100 words exactly, and gah, it was hard. But also kind of fun. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] akamine_chan for beta reading.

Dead caribou, dozens of them.

So much for the promise that the dam wouldn't harm the wildlife. Bob straightened, walking away. He'd haul a caribou in by snowmobile, determine the cause of death. If he could just prove it...

Click. Bob froze at the unmistakable sound.

Damn, but he was an idiot to have come here alone.

Well, he'd brazen it out. "You're going to shoot a Mountie? They'll hunt you to the ends of the earth."

Silence.

A shot, and a body fell, sliding down the slope.

Above it, Buck nodded to Bob. "They forgot you had a partner."

For now, please comment at the LJ entry.

Yeah, as Ray said, there's no ship like partnership.

Yaaay! This is what really happened, obviously. The Pilot got it all wrong. I love Buck, and I thought it was a pity he was really only used for comic relief in the film. He and Bob must have had a pretty deep connection, given he's the only other person who can see Bob's ghost.

' Someday I will write a long casefic with Bob and Buck and Caroline.'
Yay! I love that idea.

Oh, werewolves make everything cooler. But I may be biased because I loved your last two werewolf AU stories.

Yeah, if you do write that Bob, Caroline, Buck story I'd love to do a cover for that one too.

I liked this. With all the AUs I've read and contemplated, this has never occurred to me. Really original.

OOO! Interesting! I'd really like to see option 2. Since Fraser and his dad didn't have any real relationship until Bob was, well, dead, it would be interesting to see whether they could have some kind of relationship as adults if Bob were still alive. I could see if Bob came to Fraser with this problem - treating him like an equal for the first time, knowing he could trust his son - it might change things for both of them. (I'm now searching for carrots to tempt your plot bunnies.)

No, I don't think you'd be fitting that story into 100 words! I'm pleased you'd even consider it for a future story - I'll be content with that for now. I'll ponder it too, but I've got five different ideas I'm juggling. I need to pick one and finish and just post SOMETHING! I can't start anything new!

That's a good idea! Thanks! I'll think about it. I'm a very shy and nervous new writer, so the idea is daunting, but it would be good to get out there and be brave. Right now my difficulty in finishing is more from a busy life (two young kids, work, etc.), but having a cheerleader is always helpful.

I...I'm torn. Because I love this, the straight forward simplicity of the writing reflecting very tempo and tone of Bob's own speech. And Buck! Saving the day!

...but then Fraser would have no need to go to Chicago.

Rock, meet hard place. Wahhhhh

(I would so love to see more fic of Bob and Buck's partnership, just for the record)

Oh, this is an awesome what if.

Fraser and/or Bob and Buck could still end up in Chicago too, considering they'd have to link the hitman to Gerard and The Dam company. Imagine Ray meeting Bob first?!
