Another book which I reread because I have requested it for Yuletide and wanted to refresh my memory. And it was very much worth rereading! Sutcliff is one of those authors of whose writing I can be keenly envious—OMG, to write descriptions like that… *pines* I have no ideas for writing Jean and Darklis myself, but I eagerly anticipate seeing if anyone has written it for me as a gift.
Hornblower’s Lost Honour by

This is a novel-length Bush/Hornblower fic which has been posted over the course of the autumn/winter, and which I have been greatly enjoying! If I have to categorize it, I suppose I would say "angst with a happy ending". But it's one of those fics where the angst takes time to resolve, and everything is not just magically okay when people kiss, because sometimes they just are… kind of dysfunctional. Or one of them is, anyway. So if you want to wallow in something like that, I recommend it! And it's definitely not all angst, it's also funny and tender and hot and in general has some great writing.
What If? 2 by Randall Munroe (2022)
Like a book-length XKCD comic with lots of science geekery, and enjoyable as such.

Date: 2022-12-22 10:35 pm (UTC)Oh, Hugh. The line that makes me laugh is when he says, apropos of Jean’s second marriage: 'Oh, how could she! She was married to Claverhouse!' *starry eyes*

Date: 2023-01-09 11:20 pm (UTC)Height of summer indeed, and we've just had our first few days over 30C. We could do with some of your snow. La Nina is apparently running out and we'll be back to the old weather pattern soon.
The peacocks have been sheltering from the heat, but a few weeks ago I saw a peahen with 5, count them 5, chicks! Poor peahen! I feed all the peafowl grapes, berries etc whenever they come round. I am a total pushover.
