Future fannish projects--advice?

I have two stories reasonably close to posting. *looks smug and accomplished*

Hmm, I have also realized that I do, in fact, have a WIP which is potentially meaty enough for a Big Bang. It's the post-CotW F/K story where Ray K goes to Depot and becomes a Mountie. It would have two intertwined storylines, one in the past, where Ray and Fraser have relationship problems stemming partly from Ray's lack of a real job. Yeah, I know that's been done before, but I also want to bring up the whole two-people-living-alone-in-a-cabin thing. Because I realize that's a nice fantasy and all, but I'd like to bring more community into their lives, and have that be part of the solution of their relationship problems. And then there's a storyline in the present, where Ray and Fraser are Mountie partners and search for a kid who's gone missing. Which sounds a lot like sageness Big Bang story, I know, but there'd be some differences, too.

There may be shallow aspects to this story, as well. Like Ray in a brown RCMP uniform. Ngggh.

So, I could maybe sign up for Big Bang. I mean, I wrote 10,000 words in a month this summer, so 20,000 in half a year should be doable. And nothing's going to happen if I drop out, either.

Yeah, that leaves DSSS. I'm still not sure about whether to do that. *dithers and thinks of all kinds of arguments for and against*

I'm also thinking about what to record for my next podfic project. Maybe "The Reaching Out One", by alex51324? I love it, and it also has alternating POV, which is a definite plus for me when I'm podficcing. It'd be about 7 hours long, though, which is a lot.

Oh, I'm glad you think so. I think it would depend on on creating interesting OC's, and/or using secondary canonical characters in a good way. Plus lots of research, I suppose. And I've wanted to write an established relationship story with relationship problems for a while.

Would it be greedy to wish you'd do all of those things? I'm already salivating at the thought of that story (Ray in the brown uniform? *dies* And already thinking what some artist - like JS maybe - could make of that. Oh, it would be delicious.) and you know how I feel about your podfic.

Okay, so maybe it would be greedy to want DSSS on top of all that. So I guess I am. *is unrepentant* :D

Aww, thanks for the encouragement.

And I'm glad you like the idea of Ray in the brown uniform. I mean, we've seen him in the red one, and hmm, that didn't quite turn my crank (although maybe that was his flat hair, since it was in Asylum). The brown one, though? Yum.

I've also thought of a benefit to doing DSSS: I could ask for stuff that I want! I would totally request Fraser family gen.

Don't think I didn't imagine that and immediately put it on my to-do list the very moment I saw Luz's post! HEE. It is going to happen. Regardless of which story I get to do art for. As soon as I'm free (I have tons of homework and other fannish gifts on my Art-WIP list) I will start in.

Somebody tell me whether they want the fully polished version (jacket on, etc) or the sleeves-rolled-up, suspenders, no-jacket version.

And if anyone wants to quote me an ep where they thought the brown uniform was looking mighty fine, she could do that as well... *hints*

Hmm, this is hard. Buttoned-up, formal-looking Ray could be really good. OTOH, suspenders, rolled-up sleeves. Arrgh, I can't decide. Okay, what I really want is to see him first all buttoned-up, and then slipping off his jacket and slooowly rolling up his sleeves. Or maybe that's something that should go in the story. *g*

You should do it all! Especially the more realistic take on two people in a cabin because that sounds potentially fascinating.

I suppose I am productive? I think of myself as a slow writer, but then I'm always surprised at the end of the year by how much I've written. Anyway, I'm glad you think the potential Big Bang story sounds interesting!

Yeah, that's it (if there isn't another story where that happens). And yes, it's a lovely story--it felt like such a fresh and new take on the post-CotW scenario. And I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Real Worlds!

Eeee, thank you! I mean, obviously part of my motivation in posting this was to see if anyone else thought the idea was interesting. So I am glad that you do.

Actually, I wrote about 2500 words of it last year (which, hey, that's 12.5% of the total I need) and now that I read it through, parts of it read like a summary, which means I could totally expand and fill it out. I suspect I'm going to moan a lot about the casefic aspects of it, though, because I hate writing that kind of thing.

Trying to resist Fraser is perhaps futile? We shall see. : )

(Hmm, that other fic? You mean the one that you beta-read? I did a little work on revising it when I was in the mountains, but then I decided it had to rest for a while, in the hope that my sub-conscious would work on it and I could come back to it with a fresh eye sometime in the future. I haven't given up hope on it, though. : )

In theory I'm working on the other WIP. In practice, I got distracted with organising a local slash con, and haven't done either in weeks. I may spend some of today poking the WIP, but we're going away tomorrow...

Is it really selfish of me to want you to record as much podfic as possible? (I just finished listening to Real Worlds, and, man, you are good.)

And If you have an, what sounds like an unique and really interesting, idea for a big bang, then go for it.

Oh, there will definitely be more podfic. I've realized that long podfic projects are actually less work, if you count it per thousand words or something, because once you're ready to post a podfic, you have to do all sorts of uploading and posting and announcing and cross-posting. With long podfics, you can just get into this comfortable routine of recording a little every day. (And hey, thanks!)
