My longest fic ever! \o/

I am at the family summer place with my mom and two dogs, and it's great. Actually I have quite a lot of work, but I can do it remotely: giving writing feedback on 60 student essays (which I am done with!!), grading an exam, constructing another exam, advising two students writing bachelor theses, etc. It's so beautiful here! The pear tree is blooming, the rhubarb is shooting out of the ground so fast you can almost see it, and the dogs can run freely in the woods. We had nettle soup yesterday, with waffles for dessert.

Also, I am done with my longest fic ever! \o/ My next longest is 142K, so not much of a difference, but. I don't think it's a coincidence that both of these are poly fics--you just need more words when there are more relationships to develop.

It is! Although I've just spent almost a whole hour calming down the dogs after Mom left to do grocery shopping, sigh. The ten-month-old dog was wondering where she'd gone, stressing himself up scratching at the doors trying to open them, etc. The thirteen-year-old one was trying to mount the younger one to show his dominance. It does work to have body contact and stroke them while speaking soothingly, but it takes time...anyway, now they are both finally sleeping and I can get something done.

Oh my goodness. I had no idea dogs could get themselves into such a state. How long was she away for, and does it happen every time she goes grocery shopping? Exhausting if so.

As a cat person... well, my cats would have considered it beneath them to even wake up if I was gone for an hour! But that's cats for you.

Nettle soup is delicious, you should try it! Pick the nettles during the spring, by wearing gloves and using a scissors. Just take the top, so you don't have to weed out the stringy stems later. Wash them in water, then boil them in water for perhaps five minutes. If you have more nettles than fits in your pot, boil them in several batches, in the same water. Keep the water that you boiled in for later. Chop the nettles which are now soft and don't sting. Make a soup with vegetable stock and the water that you boiled the nettles in, and add chopped nettles, some chopped fried onions, some cream, a little thickening (flour), some black pepper and salt to taste. Eat with a boiled egg if you like.

Wow, congrats on the completion of a fabulously long fic! I have just barely scratched the surface of FotH canon -- I find the hard-copy version's small point-size very off-putting. I know there was something about you making an audio version, but I've lost track of the details.

Yes, well, they are usually easier to deal with. Re: cats, a friend of mine had one who, in the morning, reached underneath the blankets to scratch her if she didn't get up, so it's not like they are always easy, either...but yes, they are usually more independent.

Work is never finished, alas...but we have already made rhubarb crumble with vanilla custard sauce, and I also aim to make rhubarb cordial.
