For the Trick or Treat exchange, I received this lovely little story where Keith Cameron is haunted, though it's a bit of a spoiler to say by what ghosts. I didn't think it was written by anyone I knew, and indeed it wasn't! Thank you!

Fandom: The Jacobite Trilogy | The Flight of the Heron Series - D. K. Broster
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Keith Cameron, Ewen Cameron, Alison Grant (Jacobite Trilogy), Donald Cameron (Jacobite Trilogy), Margaret Cameron
Summary: Keith Cameron is haunted.

I wrote the following two stories for [personal profile] sanguinity, who unsurprisingly I keep getting assigned to in exchanges. This time I was determined that she wouldn't guess it was me! So I read a new-to-me book she had requested fic for (which was not a chore, since I like stories about Arctic expeditions anyway!) and wrote something for that. My beta reader [personal profile] feroxargentea who did a little Britpicking for me said it was sweet that I read a book just to write fic for [personal profile] sanguinity, but I'm afraid it was more competitive than sweet! *triumphs* : D I did also guess what she wrote (the first-ever fic for "Mr Rowl", yay! And it's a really good one.) But there's not much credit to take there since the pool of probable candidates was extremely small.

Did you enjoy the book, at least?

I read new-to-me books for exchanges pretty often. Sometimes because I'm blocked on what I offered, sometimes just for variety. I usually have had pretty good luck with it: if we matched on one thing, often my and the recip's tastes overlap enough that I enjoy other things they requested, too.

And yes, you fooled me! I assumed they were written by a stranger. I will tell you that it was a DELIGHT when I saw the first Dark Matter story appear in the fandom list: I thought the request a very long shot!

w00t!

Unusually for me, I encountered this novel first in the form of a reading by Lee Ingleby on BBC Radio 4, where I got to feel smug for correctly diagnosing the expedition with a case of draug rather than residual haunting even before the word was spoken. I liked the novel, too, when I tracked it down later in the month. I love your grace note to it.

It didn't occur to me, but if it had occurred to me to wonder whether you would enjoy this book, I would have said yes!

My father actually listened to it first this summer and then immediately recommended me an Arctic ghost story set in 1937.

And thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the fic.

I did!

Haha, I had absolutely no idea whether it was you or [personal profile] sanguinity who wrote the Mr Rowl fic, although of course I was almost certain it was one of you :D

I have heard that Dark Matter novel recced by several people now. Definitely adding it to my TBR list!
