Ack, what a terrible AI-generated ebook version of D K Broster's The Wounded Name. : ( The cover looks like it's...something out of some 20th century war? And according to the summary, "The story likely follows the fortunes of a Scottish clan and its members as they become embroiled in the political and military conflicts of the time." WTF. Why must the internet fill up with crap?

Ew. At least it's clear what it is ("likely follows," come on); that's harder and harder to tell these days! I saw someone put together a comprehensive post over on tumblr about the Goblin Emperor books and issues with audiobooks (which were somehow plagiarized, I didn't quite understand that part) and translated versions with gen-AI covers, which I can't imagine Sarah Monette would be a fan of. Some of them I definitely would not have spotted without a second close look.

My first response was "oh at least they took a book that was in public domain." ;-)

likely follows

It's a mystery! Read the book and see if the auto-summary was right!

Grotesque! (The act of putting it on AMZ; the font looks like Grotesk).

Is it possible that there are people who are making money doing this?!

How could someone read that summary with two "likely"s and not recognize that as LLM slop?

Worst timeline. Haven't read any Wm Gibson in a couple decades but even his profound pessimism didn't predict this.
