Happy More Joy Day! &hearts

I have nothing fannish to offer right now, but like many others of you, I donated money to Haiti (via Medecins Sans Frontiers). Also, because it's a cause dear to my heart, I donated to an organization that buys up threatened old growth forest in Sweden. (If you're new to my flist, you might not know that I've spent years working with forest conservation issues in Sweden.)

Probably not that cold, or at any rate there isn't a cold wind. They usually curl up in tight little balls if that's the case. Not like now--I mean, look at the one lying on its side being all cozy and adorable.

Sled dogs! Aaaaaaaaaaw! You don't think it would be possible for them to look cuter, and then they go to sleep.

Also, yay for supporting ancient woodland! Lots of the ones in Britain are gone too, although the Forestry Commission does look after what's left. And lots of it is protected under archaeology statutes because it's, say, medieval royal forest or something. Still, people will insist on planting horrible new woods with neat rows of fast-growing trees ready to be chopped down to make Ikea furniture. Yeuch.

Interesting to hear about the forest situation in Britain! And it's cool that forest is being protected as a cultural heritage rather than a natural one. Of course, your country is smaller and more densely populated, so it stands to reason the forest has been influenced by humans a lot. That's the case among the temperate forests in southern Sweden as well, but in the boreal forest in northern Sweden, there are some relatively untouched forests still.
