First off, some statistics:
My best podfic(s) of this year: Hmm, it's hard to choose. I'm fond of Ravens In Winter, because I think I managed to capture a certain dark and spooky quality in the fic. I also like the Good Omens podfic Amid the Sacred Wreck--it was unexpectedly easy and fun to read in Aziraphale's POV. Another podfic I'm quite happy with is the Greek mythology story Small Step For Man. The ending makes me shiver every time (of course, that's mostly due to the awesome writing). Among the due South podfics, I think The Sweet Hereafter turned out well--it's a long podfic and I think the reading is fairly consistent over the whole length.
My favourite podfic of this year: Thoughts Without Words. I got totally caught up in reading Sherlock Holmes POV, and
katieforsythe's prose is delightful to read--there was an almost physical pleasure in it. And I think the podfic turned out well, too. I'm also listing And these are all for you here--I felt very close to the Fraser POV in that one, for some reason (plus, I got to sing!).
Podfic most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Ha, well, many of them have no comments at all (mostly the ones from tiny fandoms), so there would be a lot of competition here.
Most fun podfic to record: Hunting High and Low was a lot of fun to perform, because it's got the sort of humor that comes from the protagonist being earnest and clueless. I also really enjoyed doing Aphrodite in Invicta, because the fic has such a delightfully distinct voice for her.
Sexiest podfic: This one's pretty clear, since I didn't really record a lot of porn this year:
helens78's I'll Show You Mine If You Show Me Yours. It's a sexy story, and I think it's a sexy podfic, too.
Podfic with the single sexiest moment: Hmmm. There's a moment in Will You Bloom Bright and Fierce that I find very sexy. You can totally listen to this podfic even if you don't know the song it's based on, btw--it's a sort of modern seasonal fertility myth and was one of my favorite stories from this year's Yuletide.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" podfic: Nothing I can think of? Crackiest podfic is definitely Lovelace and Babbage vs. The Christmas Death Spider From Beyond The Atlantic, but I don't think it's wrong, exactly.
Podfic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Probably Thoughts Without Words. I really enjoyed working my way into the Sherlock Holmes POV.
Hardest podfic to record: Perhaps the non-con scene in Quiet In Drowning.
Biggest Disappointment: The Reaching Out One, definitely. I recorded half of it last fall, and then I had the Great Cold of Doom for several months and couldn't record anything, and then came Amplificathon. I finished it this summer, but by that time I'd changed my reading style a bit, so that the podfic feels a bit disjointed to me. Ah, well.
Biggest Surprise: That I recorded so much!
Most Unintentionally Telling Podfic: I don't know what would be a telling podfic, actually. I mean, all podfics obviously reveal my taste in fandoms and in fic, and all podfics also reveal that I am from Sweden.
Looking back, did you record more podfic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? So much more! \o/
What pairing/genre/fandom did you record that you would never have predicted in January 2009? All those fics in British fandoms, like Master and Commander and Sherlock Holmes. I'm aware that I don't have a British accent and am totally faking it, but I'm having a lot of fun, at least.
Did you take any risks this year? What did you learn from them? Well, I recorded in a wide range of fandoms, and I also recorded poetry and sang songs. I think that very diversity has been good, because it let me experiment and stretch myself.
Do you have any podfic goals for the New Year? I'm not going to do Amplificathon with the intent to place among the top three next year--it's fun, but it's also exhausting. Instead, I plan to record some longer stories in some very rare fandoms, ones that I've thought of doing other years, but which I didn't record because the Amplificathon point system discourages long podfics. And I'll do more due South/C6D podfic, of course. I'm thinking of recording
nos' "Unsent", if she'll let me. I am also tempted by "Strange Loops".
I'd like to thank the academy... Thank you to everyone who has given me comments and feedback! And an especial thanks to
andeincascade,
jesse_the_k and
vsee for your encouragement. It warms my heart. &hearts

Date: 2010-12-21 09:41 pm (UTC)It's funny, with writing it's usually completely impossible to estimate how much time you've put into a fic--the wordcount doesn't tell you anything about that. At least not for me.
And thank you! : )

Note the changed letter in "hushållsost". : ) And that's right, you live in one of the parts of the US with a lot of Scandinavian immigrants, right? Do you have Scandinavian ancestry yourself? I can't remember if you've told me.
And yes, it's good to spend time with my family. I hope your holidays are good, too!
