My current WIPs

Right, I want to get back to writing a little bit every day again--I've had almost a month where I haven't written anything for various reasons. So in the hopes of finding inspiration, I'm going to talk about my WIPs! This is what I'm working on (loosely speaking) right now. I also have various non-active WIPs (seven, to be exact), but I'm hiding those under the bed for now.

- Two gen fairy tale fics that have been through beta once. One is a post-apocalyptic story which is really original fic, if I'm to be honest, and the other is based on Little Red Riding Hood. I should finish these, dammit. For the first one, I need to do a little bit of editing/rewriting and then decide if it should be longer or not, and the second one needs to have some scenes fleshed out, but is otherwise finished.

- A post-CotW ghost story set during the quest. I suppose the origin of this story was when j_s_cavalcante read my dSSS letter and said jokingly that the perfect fic for me would be one featuring ghost sled dogs. *g* This fic is maybe a third written, but I need to rewrite some of it and figure out some plot details. I'm finding it a bit hard to write during the summer, though, because the wintry setting is important.

- I'm also tempted to write a porny sequel to this little masturbation snippet. That could be a nice bit of warm-up writing, actually.

- There's also a story I want to start writing, but I feel that I shouldn't let myself if I don't finish some existing WIP first. It's the long, mostly gen, story of Victoria Metcalf and what happens with her after "Victoria's Secret". Another thing holding me back from writing it is that she ends up becoming a computer programmer/hacker, and I don't know much about that.

I'm going away over the weekend (to my boyfriend's grandma's funeral), but hopefully there'll be at least some internet.

And I will! I only met her once, but I liked her, and apparently she gave me her seal of approval as being worthy of her grandson. : )

Glad I'm not the only one who finds it an appealing idea! I've been writing some the last few days (though not on that one) so I figure I'm getting up to speed again.

Well, I usually have the most difficulty with the overarching plot of a story, and how different plot threads weave together. The sentence- and scene-level details are much easier. And if you're writing a short story with a sex scene as the main event, then the plot is pretty much given already. I think that's why I find it easier. : )

I have such a hard time with the porny bits of my stories (although I enjoy reading other people's). It's not even modesty, it's just... the mechanics of it: what goes where when, and who does what to whom. I've never been strong with writing action, and this is one place where you can't ignore the "doing", so to speak :)

I have difficulties with action as well, in the sense of action scenes in casefic, for example. But sex scenes aren't hard in that way, for me. I think it's because most of what makes sex scenes work is really in the characters' heads (their motivations, feelings, sensations), not in the mechanics of what goes where. I mean, sex scenes that are just descriptions of what people are doing physically don't do much for me. But yeah, I suppose you need at least some of that. Although I've read sex scenes that leave most of the physical stuff to your imagination and still are really hot.
