Snowflake challenge, day 5: non-fannish passions

Several people on my flist are posting about their love of singing, and I love singing, too, especially with my sister. We've sung so much together that it feels like our voices just fit together effortlessly, which I love. Here's me and my sister singing a Swedish Christmas folk song about Sankt Staffan, who is probably the same as Saint Stephen?

Anyway, I'm singing the melody and my sister the harmony for once (it's usually the other way around). We speed up the song at the second verse, and I like how that turned out. (OTOH, I set the gain of the microphone too high, which means that there's a bit of clipping at one point. Sorry!)

I also love nature in many ways--I love being outside, I love learning about and learning to identify different species (mostly plants, but also various groups of insects), and I'm also active in an environmental group that works to protect Swedish forests.

Well, I'm a podficcer, so I put up recordings of my voice all the time. It seemed natural. : )

Singing close harmony is close to sex as far as satisfaction and thrills go. Have you sung together all your lives? Do you enjoy singing a variety of genres?

Heh, I'm not sure I want to think of sex and my sister in the same sentence, but I see what you mean. Yeah, we've always sung together. We sing mostly folk music in the broad sense of the word, and also sometimes bluegrass and country.

I love harmonies, and this has all sorts of harmonies that just make me shiver. I love the moments of harmonic dissonance that you hold *perfectly* and then resolve - gah, music like this just makes me so happy! Doesn't matter I can't understand a word.

Thank you so much! Yeah, I love dissonant harmonies, they're so much fun to sing. Actually, I think you might like this song (no embedding in comments, apparently). Our voices start half a note apart. *g* It's an old folk song, and has intriguing lyrics. They go "Secretly I stood one morning/in a hidden city/With much crying and lamentation/I heard a young man begging Death/who had seized him/and bound him in strong fetters"
