Birthday! + fic research question
May. 10th, 2008 01:02 pmSo, today is my birthday--I'm turning 29. I'm kind of starting not to notice birthdays so much. They just don't have the same magic as when you're a kid.
But still, when people do nice things for me, it makes me happy. Thank you!
akamine_chan posted a congratulation with praise which made me blush, and gave me a cute polar bear, and
zabira gave me a vanilla cupcake (and I won't get to eat cupcakes today, but I will be making a rhubarb pie with vanilla sauce). Also, some anonymous person wrote me a wonderful ficlet about Benton leaving the north to go to Depot (it's on my profile). Honestly, it's like that person was reading my mind, because I'm writing a story about that, and it was interesting to get someone else's perspective on it. Also, I really like using the name Benton for him when he's younger.
This segues nicely into some research I'm doing for that fic. Does anyone know in which episode Bob tells Fraser a story about when he got orders to make some Inuit people move where they didn't want to, and Bob fooled the authorities and let them stay where they wanted?
Also, a podfic-related question: how do you pronounce "Cessna"? Is it just "SESS-na"?
Best birthday present, though? My boyfriend coming back today after being gone for two weeks. &hearts

Date: 2008-05-10 05:34 pm (UTC)2. Isn't it Asylum? Benton's uncertain about whether he's doing the right thing, thwarting the Chicago justice system to help Ray. So Bob tells him about how he circumvented the letter of the law once to do the right thing. Maintiens le droit, and all that. :)
3. Yes, it's SESS-na.
4. I totally have to give you feedback on pronunciation, but I don't have time to do it till after my semester ends (8 days and counting. Yikes!) I'll have to listen again and take notes.
But I remember one thing: When saying words in English that end in "mb" like "comb, dumb," etc.--don't pronounce the B. It's silent.
Also, I know you have questions about when "S" is pronounced like Z. I will look for those especially. You tend to put some Zs in there that should be S sounds.
5. Have a great birthday! \o/

3. I actually got pronunciation notes from the author today, and they were really helpful. I'm recording
4. Hmm. I didn't know that was a consistent rule (about the silent "b" in "mb"), thanks for telling me. And about the "s" vs "z": yes, I probably tend to overcompensate the lack of "z"'s in Swedish and do too many of them in English.
Thanks again, and good luck with your drawing!
