1) On this Friday at 7 pm GMT, [profile] seascribe and [personal profile] ardyforshort and I are going to watch Bullitt while chatting over Skype. Feel free to join us! : ) My Skype name is luzulae.

2) I've been home for a week now, and it's good! The other day there was a pretty spectacular display of northern lights--living close to the Arctic Circle has its advantages. In other news, I'm unemployed.

That job interview I went to back in late November? They never got back to me, despite saying that they would do so in two to three weeks, and despite the fact that there were only two people being interviewed. I sent them one email asking if they'd decided, but I never got a reply. So I have no idea what's going on there. Maybe I should call them? But gah, I hate phone calls like that, and I'm not even sure by now that I want the job. It's not that I got bad vibes from them while I was there, but I didn't get truly welcoming vibes either, and I don't know anyone in that town. *sigh*

The department here emailed me saying they possibly had a course for me to teach this spring, but it turned out not to be the case (the teacher who was ill had recovered sooner than they'd thought). They definitely do need me for teaching in the fall, though. Meanwhile I'm applying to a couple of other lecturer positions, including one which I really want, because it's in Göteborg, where I was born and where my parents live. I'm expecting there to be competition for that, though, because it's a bigger university. There's also a position on Iceland? *ponders*

Meanwhile, I am doing fine, and certainly not hurting economically--I have good unemployment benefits, and anyway I have a lot of saved-up money. I'm thinking that now would be a good time to get a driver's licence? Not that I want or need a car--I get around fine by bus and bike and walking--but if I want at some point to do more biology fieldwork, for example, I'd definitely need to be able to drive. Other than that, there's sort a pressure to do research and produce papers while I'm unemployed, to better my chances at getting academic work, and I have a possible project with a colleague I like, but, well. I'm not sure I can motivate myself to do it, though I'll definitely try. We'll see.
