The woes of an auditor + charming photo of young Gordon Pinsent!

Gah. I am one of the auditors of a Swedish environmental youth organization, and I'll be going to one of the board meetings to talk to the board. I feel that the current board is doing stuff that is kind of messed up, but there's a difference between "you are doing this thing that is objectively Wrong because it is against the bylaws" and "you are doing these things that I feel are wrong because I disagree with them politically and think they are undemocratic". I mean, it's hard to know to which extent I can say the latter things in my role as auditor. Although I guess I can always say "this is my opinion as someone who has lots of experience in the organization," especially since a couple of people on the board are pretty new to the org.

Anyway, I am just not a person who is good at confrontation and debate, so I am pretty nervous about it. It's true that I am one of three auditors, so I won't be alone, and we're going to have a meeting before we talk to the board. Still, I pretty much just want to retreat like a hermit into a cave and read fic instead.

Thanks! I just read some more documentation they sent me, and let's just say I have more ammunition now. WTF are they doing?!?

Thanks! The talk went fine--all the auditors were pretty much in agreement that the board is doing some screwed-up stuff, and we told them so, but in the end it's their call (and I hope the annual meeting of the org kicks their asses for it).

And OMG, I love that photo. ♥ A good illustration of the kind of thing you would never show non-fannish people, heh.

And whew, now I have a long train-trip to read fic on.

Does that org have a "why we do things" or "mission statement"? That could be handy to use as a comparison when you're analyzing why stuff is wrong.

Well, I discovered some other stuff in the board minutes that was pretty definitely screwed up, and the other auditors agreed, so I think our analysis was pretty easy to make in the end...

And the meeting went well. Not sure we convinced the board, but we gave them some stuff to think about. Anyway, they're answerable to the annual meeting in the end, not us.
