A Severed Wasp by Madeleine L'Engle

*waves to [personal profile] cahn* Hey, I finally got around to reading this. I enjoyed it! For those who haven't read it, it's about a concert pianist who is retiring, but who finds herself drawn into new social circles when she's asked to give a benefit concert at a cathedral. I do like the way her past was woven into her present, and also the reminder that however old you are, you aren't finished with growing or making new connections. [personal profile] riverlight, I think you would enjoy this book? Music and spirituality are major themes. : )

The Prize in the Game by Jo Walton

Not my favorite Jo Walton book, I think? Sulien worked immediately for me as a main character in the Tir Tanagiri books, but here we get several main characters instead, and it took me about half the book to get a sense of them all. I liked the way that Elenn and Darag grew on me, though. Hmm, I can't quite reconcile the ending of this book with the Emer and Conal that we see in the Tir Tanagiri books--wasn't there bloodfeud between them then? Maybe the reason for the bloodfeud was mentioned there and I've just forgotten. Also, I do love all the female characters and the way that kings, warriors, lawspeakers, etc are women just as often as they are men.
