I hate to say it, but the Canadian government kind of sucks right now (la la la, cognitive dissonance with the positive image of Canada in fanfic).

So Canada is apparently in 58th place, fourth from the bottom and worst in the developed world, in a climate change performance index done by an environmental organization. The US is in 43rd place (but still ranked as "very poor"). Sweden is the second best country (with Denmark as the best) and is ranked "good". But no, being in the Swedish environmental movement, I can't really feel that Sweden is doing particularly well. By comparison, maybe.

Our PM used to lead the even-more-right-wing-than-the-right-wing-party party. When he got his majority government, he told us we wouldn't recognize the country by the end of his term. I'm terrified he was right.

Sweden's got a right-wing government, too, although not as right-wing as yours, obviously. We've also got one of those populist right-wing anti-immigrant parties that seem to be rising all over Europe, and it's now the third largest party in Sweden. : (

I have been really disheartened for a while about the environmental related news coming out of Canada, but I did not realise it was that bad. D:

The controlling government, in power since 2008, has managed inaction into an art form. They've also mastered saying one thing and doing another, and promising never to try to submit bad laws and then hiding them within omnibus bills, etc. etc. It's just so toxic right now it seems like it's mostly idiots, bootlickers and scammers looking to be politicians.

Oh dear, I need a reworded icon that says "Canada Do Not Fuck Yourself". Fraser would have his work cut out for him, to round up so many environmental malfeasants and bring them to ecological justice.

How are these numbers assigned if, by your first-hand experience in the Swedish environmental movement, you think Sweden is not doing particularly well, but it still gets a second place rating?

Well, it just says that the world as a whole is not doing as well as it needs to do? I'm sure they're doing an okay job with the ranking--they have a vacant "very good" category at the top to try to show that no country is really doing what they need to do. Sweden is just good by comparison.

Yeah, it sucks so much. : ( My own country has a right-wing government too right now, and I am hoping so much that they will go out of power in the election this fall.
