Through Alien Eyes, by Amy Thomson
Sequel to The Color of Light which I read recently. [personal profile] jesse_the_k did not like the sequel as well as the first book, and I didn't either--it lacked the sense of discovery of the first one, where we got to explore the alien world. But I still enjoyed the sequel well enough, since I got to spend more time with characters I liked.

Cavalcade, by Alison Sinclair
SF where modern-day people are invited onto an alien ship without knowing what they'll get, and several thousand people go. They spend their time on the ship exploring it and trying to understand what's going on, and also trying to get along with each other. I liked the multiple POV:s and interests, and the science was interesting. But I was kind of baffled because the aliens obviously know how to communicate in human language at the beginning, but then on board the ship, everything is so very cryptic. Use your words, aliens!

True, it's always nice to spend time in the company of Thomson's nifty aliens and believable human. I just wanted moar wonderful.

It's books like these which make me really appreciate folks who can pace their ideas through three or four or .... volumes.
