luzula: a Luzula pilosa, or hairy wood-rush (Default)
Over Sea and Under Stone by Susan Cooper
Some comfort rereading. I think I reread The Dark Is Rising and possibly also The Grey King some time ago, but not this one in a long while, probably because it's the one I think of as the most juvenile one. But I thoroughly enjoyed it! I did think the second clue makes zero astronomical sense (the one where you're supposed to look at where the path of the moonlight leads). Unlike the first clue which only depends on the day of the year, this one also depends on what time at night it is (also on which year it is)! Ummm. Merriman's handwavy comment that if the first clue worked, so would the second, is just not true. But whatever, it's a delightful book anyway.

Den underbare mannen by Sara Lidman (The Wonderful Man, not available in English)
Book #4 in her series about the colonization of northern Sweden. More of the same and I enjoyed it as such! Still great use of dialect and sense of place. Although it was kind of painful to read because in this book the main character slides slowly and inexorably towards bankruptcy and it's mostly (but not only) his own fault.

Also I went to see Wonder Woman yesterday and it was pretty much exactly what I expected, which is to say, wonderfully therapeutic. Sometimes you just want to watch a woman kick ass.
