Felicities Maximized by L A Hall (2018)
This is the 12th and last book in the Comfortable Courtesan series, but since there are a fair number of spin-offs about other members of the huge cast of characters, I won't have to stop reading here. \o/ I have to say that I now kind of want the scene where Sandy sleeps with Clorinda in the spirit of scientific experimentation--this is the second time he has exhibited confused attraction to her! But as it would probably make his boyfriend sad, maybe it's for the best that they don't, and they do make such lovely friends as they are. I did very much like the ending scene of the book, with Clorinda's memoirs being found after her death by her loved ones.

Children of Memory by Adrian Tchaikovsky (2022)
I started reading this at one point and put it down, since the opening did not grab me. Then later on I listened to a podcast interview with the author, which inspired me to pick it up again. Predictably, the opening had bored me because it had no aliens and only humans--I do think Tchaikovsky writes better aliens and other species than humans. Or maybe it's that his prose is nothing special, but his aliens/other species are always interesting. He said in the interview that the theme of the whole series is empathy, which feels right.
