Yay, we share a small fandom! I tried to give a sense of my tastes in each fandom, but please don't feel constrained by any of the specific suggestions. Just have fun writing and I am sure I will love it.

The Dispossessed, by Ursula K. Le Guin (any)
I didn't pick any characters for this fandom. What I really want is worldbuilding fic, although if you're dying to tell a story about a particular canon character I would love to hear that, too (I know I can match with any character!) FWIW, my favorite canon characters are Shevek and Takver. Anyway, I would love fic from the early days of the Anarres settlement. What did they struggle with, both in the new environment and among themselves? I'd love reading about the details of terraforming, so feel free to go there if you want. What social issues did they deal with in building a new society? What was it like for everyone to learn a new language together? Or you could show me Anarres from the POV of someone from another Hainish world. I guess the only thing I really don't want would be a fic which was all "capitalism is the greatest! anarchism sucks!" but I suspect if you signed up to write this fandom, you won't do that. : ) Shades of gray (like canon) is totally fine, though. Things I like (obviously optional): landscape description, biology, engineering, linguistic geekery, female characters, the complexities of organizational work, people who are passionate about things, solidarity.

Aubrey-Maturin series, by Patrick O'Brian (Diana Villiers)
I find Diana fascinating, and would love to read more about her. You could go pretty much anywhere (except character-bashing, and I would also prefer that you not break up Diana and Stephen) and I would be happy. Some concrete ideas: Diana/Clarissa has always struck me as an interesting possibility. Clarissa canonically doesn't enjoy sex with men; could it be because she's a lesbian? I am sure Diana and Stephen could come to some sensible arrangement for the times when they are apart. I would also love further exploration of Diana's relationship with Stephen; I really ship them together, especially in the later parts of the series. I also like Diana and Sophie together, but usually not in a slashy sense. (Though feel free to go there if you really ship them--actually, it would be cool with a sedoretu-style group marriage.) You could also write Diana gen, that would also be very welcome: Diana being competent, flamboyant, independent, emotional, and occasionally selfish, but also occasionally great-hearted. Or however you see her. Note: I have not yet read the last books from The Hundred Days onwards and would prefer not to be spoiled.

The Deed of Paksenarrion, by Elizabeth Moon (Paksenarrion)
Basically, I just love Paksenarrion and want more stories about her. The Paksenarrion books are comfort reading for me, and I love following Paks' character development through the book. I also love that the books are so entirely gen, and that Paks is basically asexual without much fuss being made of it, because that's not what the story is about. So please, no romance or sex involving Paksenarrion!

You could write about one of her quests just after the ending of the book, or a glimpse of her when she's older and more experienced. I think my dream story in this fandom would be a fic in which Paksenarrion was older and had a female paladin-candidate, because I love stories about older woman-younger woman mentor relationships. But if that doesn't appeal to your muse, just go with whatever does! For example, much as I love Paks POV, an outside POV of her would be cool, too--like, someone she inspires during a quest, for example. I'm also fascinated by the Kuakganni, and something involving them would be interesting. I've read the first two books of the recent trilogy, but I like the original trilogy much better.

Papillon (1973) (Henri "Papillon" Charrière, Louis Dega)
This fandom currently has no offers, so let me just tell you about it in case we matched on something else and you're not sure you want to write that. This is an awesome movie with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman being prisoners in a colonial prison in the 1930's. They originally start working together because Hoffman's character needs protection and McQueen's character needs money, but then they fall in love start caring about each other. Seriously, this movie is one of the slashiest things I have ever seen! There is hurt/comfort while they rest bare-chested in each other's arms, there is loyalty against all odds, there are long tender hugs.

Okay, so obviously I really want slash here. It could be post-movie with them being crotchety old men together, it could be a missing scene, or you could show me what's going on inside either of their heads during the movie. Don't feel you have to write me sex (although I wouldn't say no to it!). But if you don't want to go the slashy route, I am just as happy with something that is as gen as the movie is, as long as it's about their connection somehow.

Agreed! I remember when I read that book I was struck by the potential there. I'm not enough of a writer to make it happen, but I'd love to read it. :)

Yay, Aubrey-Maturin series! (I even nominated it.)

I haven't signed up myself yet, because I can't seem to find enough fandoms I'm sure I'll be able to write -- only the three I nominated. Better go through the list again before it's too late...

I haven't read The Dispossessed in many years, but I do hope you get that fic you described, because I want to read it too. I remember it was my first exposure to Sapir-Whorf -- might even have been my first exposure to the idea of artificial languages in general. I was rather too young to understand a lot of it the first time, I think!

I didn't even realise there were strong and weak versions of S-W. Have just spent an interesting hour reading about it!

I didn't know Native Tongue. Sounds like it's worth a read, though yes, I'm also rather skeptical of the idea.

This discussion also reminds me of Babel-17. I remember searching eagerly for it for ages at various libraries, and then being left rather cold by it when I finally found it. I should give it another try now too.
