Species seen in 2016 as of the last of September, with the tally from last month in parenthesis:
vascular plants: 878 (840)
insects: 320 (290)
mosses: 245 (205)
fungi: 189 (127)
lichens: 158 (140)
birds: 118 (106)
other invertebrates: 66 (62)
other vertebrates: 23 (23)
algae: 13 (12)
total: 2010 (1801)
Woohoo, I'm over 2000! \o/ Last month's numbers are down somewhat after weeding out stuff I'd accidentally noted down twice and subspecies that I thought were species.
The fungi season started out well, but then it got really dry. Still, fungi have now outstripped lichens in my list. I was at a moss inventory camp in southern Sweden, and saw a couple of mosses I'd never seen before. Also I got my dad to take me birdwatching - left to my own devices I will look down on the ground and not notice the birds.

Date: 2016-10-03 09:18 am (UTC)Although I have to say I am not (yet) an expert in mushrooms; I just use books to look at pictures/descriptions, and ask friends who know more than me. Oh, and occasionally I look at spores under the microscope, but mostly it's just macroscopic characters.
We have gotten some rain over the last few days; I can only hope that it has similar results.
