Three Times Table by Sara Maitland
Oh, what a wonderful book! ♥ I can't remember where I saw the rec for this, but I'm so glad I did. It's about a woman, her daughter and her granddaughter over the course of one day where they each deal with their own important life-changing issues, and also about their relationships with each other. It's really good at delving into the difficulties with family, but it's heartwarming, too. Also there is a dragon. Recommended!

Ah, I knew that Maitland,s book would be right up your alley.

When I'm very lucky I have a psychedelic dream with that dragon carrying me over and through streetcar electric lines

I would be one of the likely candidates.

I've enjoyed several of Maitland's novels, in particular "Home Truths"

A black-sheep daughter returns to her family after a traumatic amputation while, passing through an African war.
Maitland is very perceptive on mother-daughter relations -- after all that's True North's central drama

Her more recent stuff focuses on spiritually, religion, and living all alone with sheep. Doesn't particularly appeal.
