Watched it tonight and am just jotting down some thoughts before I fall into bed (it's late). Aaahh, I loved it! I was so invested in Bodhi and then they killed him, NOOOOO. But then it was basically rocks fall, everyone dies anyway, so I was reconciled to that. And I was surprised how upbeat it felt for all the death and carnage. Because they had a purpose, I guess, and succeeded at it? And I liked the look into the inner workings of the Alliance. I do wish there had been more women though.

Guess I will see what fic there is now...

It was surprising how hopeful it was. Seconded on the more women.

There was a definite skewing to the male. But, I'd guesstimate 10% of the Rebel Alliance combat pilots being female, so that's a start.

Yep. I think it was one of the least gender-unequal SW films I've seen. I am quietly hopeful this will Change Things, but mostly fear it'll be the cause of a nagathon on the "MRA Intahrwebz".

I think this was the rare case in which we already knew the end so we could appreciate the beauty of the story a lot more. Also, for all the falling rocks, it does end on an upbeat note.

Like you, however, I do wish we had gotten more women joining Jyn's team (though we saw more female pilots...) and/or see Jyn interact with more women.

Although it won't make the top spot, Rogue One deffo is in the top 2016 5 movies for me

I think what pinged me is that I'm abt 80% sure that Princess Leia does mentioned people dying while retrieving the plans while talking to Luke in Episode 4. FWIW, it could've been another SW character, but I think it's Leia.

In any case, I thought it was a ~brave~ move to kill the rogues instead of leaving a chosen few. Like, normally, this kind of ending is v. upsetting, but (like you said) the rogues fighting for something bigger made the difference. :)
