The writer co-wrote the Engelsfors trilogy (YA fantasy), if you're wondering why the name sounds familiar. Anyway, this is Norse mythology-based fantasy; I enjoyed it well enough. Will probably pick up the next and last one as well. It's only in Swedish though, but
oneiriad, you might enjoy it?
So I picked up Everfair by Nisi Shawl again, but then I didn't finish it. /o\ I wanted to like it, it had interesting themes, but there was just something about the writing that didn't quite click for me. Maybe my usual problem, which is when there's too much distance to the characters, or something else, I can't quite tell. Has anyone else read it and did you enjoy it?
Among Others by Jo Walton
Reread. I wanted a comfort read and so I turned to something I already knew I enjoyed. It feels very meta to read Among Others as comfort reading though, given that the main character does so much of it herself! Anyway, this is just as good as I remember it being, especially the character voice and how the beginning matches up with the ending. ♥ There are so many wonderful details, like playing as children among old overgrown industrial ruins and thinking of it as a fantasy landscape, and then realizing it's actually a science fictional one. I love that.
