In which Luz fulfils her role as godmother

I just got to show my godson, who is the son of my best friend, the first Star Wars movies, and it was delightful. We'd been saying for years that we would do this when he turned seven--his parents are not into Star Wars, but he's been so curious about them, and I think it was a good age for it? He loved them, anyway, and didn't seem scared. Now I am all hoarse from being the Swedish speaker voice for him--he can't read fast enough to read the subtitles on his own, and he doesn't know any English yet.

I've been staying at my best friend's summer place over the weekend, and the weather was lovely, which was lucky: I slept in a tent in their garden and we did all the socializing outdoors. And we watched the movie in a sort of movie theater they have made inside the old barn. It was lovely to spend time with my friend, too--I hadn't met her since December. ♥

7 is the perfect age for Star Wars! I was 8 when the first one came out and I loved it.

We are renting a movie theater (small one, normally seats around 45 people) and I contemplated asking for Star Wars. (Ended up going with Spirited Away but Star Wars is definitely worth seeing on a large screen.)

Dubbing is only done for children's movies (like, animated Disney movies and the like).

Yes, the weather is lovely! Now I almost wish for rain, to make it easier to stay indoors and work...

I'm pretty sure all of our non-English films are subtitled -- except for Japanese animations like those from Studio Ghibli -- but I watched a Netflix doco about the voice artists who dub George Clooney in different countries, which gave the impression that dubbing is more common in some European countries (perhaps as push-back against English being a default cinematic language?). :-)

I think it partly has to do with the size of the language base. Like, for German and French there's a large enough market to do something like that, but not in Sweden. But that can't be the only reason, or there would be more films dubbed into English...

We watched the first two, and then he'll watch the third one with his parents. But there are plenty of others to watch together, after all.

Then when he's a bit older I should show him Lord of the Rings as well. : ) His parents are not into those either...
