luzulaI'm so glad I made that post asking for writing advice: thank you all for the brainstorming help! One of the comments dislodged an idea for me, and now I know how to solve my plot issue without killing Catherine's husband. But I will still get the required drama, and good character and relationship development! \o/ Actually it will be much more interesting this way.
I love this aspect of writing longfic: when I was writing my previous longfic, the one where I had to re-plot the course of the war, it happened several times that I was stuck on the plot: I had an effect that I wanted, or a desired outcome, but I had no idea how to achieve it. But with some brainstorming help from my beta readers, I always finally did, and it was so satisfying.
