Woohoo, properly gathered sleeves!
Jan. 17th, 2022 09:25 pmI have now achieved proper gathering at the cuff of my 18th century shirt, as opposed to the historically dubious pleating I did before. And I hand-sewed it, too!

I'm halfway through doing it with the other cuff, and then I just have to re-do the shoulders and neck as well...fortunately I have some Zoom-meetings coming up.
In other news, my hands are aching a bit and I have to limit my typing. /o\ Also, my new course is starting today, so work is busy. On the bright side, I got my third covid jab today!

Date: 2022-01-18 04:33 pm (UTC)Yes, it's good linen, but I've seen even finer (smaller threads, more tightly woven) in pictures of some historical clothes.

Date: 2022-01-18 12:37 pm (UTC)So pretty! I'm not quite sure what it is about gathering that makes it so aesthetically pleasing, but it definitely is :D
Sorry to hear about your hands.

Date: 2022-01-18 09:13 pm (UTC)Meanwhile, look at those lovely gathers and the straight seam :)

Date: 2022-01-20 03:34 pm (UTC)I have completed the shoulder seam now as well, which looks lovely, but I think I have to accept that sewing is too much for my hands right now...

Date: 2022-01-18 10:16 pm (UTC)I hope your hands feel better soon! Sewing plus typing is a lot of work for your fingers.

Date: 2022-01-20 03:38 pm (UTC)Actually my hands are worse, I'm trying to stay away from sewing and computer both, and practicing dictation instead of typing. Dictation is frustrating because I'm used to thinking with my hands when I type!

Date: 2022-01-19 01:30 pm (UTC)Be gentle on your hands. I know it's computer-related, but hand sewing is taxing on hands, especially if there's already rsi. Ergocise, rest when you can, keep them warm. I used to work with fingerless gloves, so knuckles and wrists were warm. You probably know the drill.
Congrats on the third jab. Hope symptoms are minimal.
