I have now achieved proper gathering at the cuff of my 18th century shirt, as opposed to the historically dubious pleating I did before. And I hand-sewed it, too!

I'm halfway through doing it with the other cuff, and then I just have to re-do the shoulders and neck as well...fortunately I have some Zoom-meetings coming up.

In other news, my hands are aching a bit and I have to limit my typing. /o\ Also, my new course is starting today, so work is busy. On the bright side, I got my third covid jab today!

That looks great!

(hmm, is it the sewing that is making your hands ache?)

Very nice work! And that looks like good quality linen too - very fine, I think?

I read (heard?) somewhere that in the past, linen used to be softer and finer than in the present day. Presumably the change is due to genetic drift\twiddling, or pollutants. I guess linen clothes used to be a lot more comfortable and of a softer drape, and easier to sew.

I am impressed by your gathering skills! My gathers have always been a bit sloppy.

Also, yay for your third shot!

So pretty! I'm not quite sure what it is about gathering that makes it so aesthetically pleasing, but it definitely is :D

Sorry to hear about your hands.

Meanwhile, look at those lovely gathers and the straight seam :)

That looks gorgeous! Are the individual folds smaller this time? Is that what makes it more historically accurate? It looks like a hell of a lot of detailed work, I'm impressed.

I hope your hands feel better soon! Sewing plus typing is a lot of work for your fingers.

Gathers look lovely! If that one bigger gather bothers you, you can always give it an extra tack or two into the cuff in the right places, so it gets the gathering pattern.
Be gentle on your hands. I know it's computer-related, but hand sewing is taxing on hands, especially if there's already rsi. Ergocise, rest when you can, keep them warm. I used to work with fingerless gloves, so knuckles and wrists were warm. You probably know the drill.
Congrats on the third jab. Hope symptoms are minimal.

I think this looks beautiful. And you are such a polymath...such a wide range of thought and creativity...the writing skills...the speaking skills...the crafting skills...and so many science skills.

Also, yays for you getting vax number 3. Continue to be well and be safe!
