Yesterday was not great, as I went with my mom and dad to the vet to put their old dog to sleep. He was almost 15 and we think he'd had a stroke or something similar, as he could hardly walk anymore and kept falling down. So lots of crying for all of us. He was the best and cuddliest dog. ♥

After that I only managed some post-beta editing of my Yuletide story, of the simplest kind: fix typos and other easily solved problems, note down what needs more work.

Day 11: 1,1k, Nostalgia project. I really need to get back to those WIPs, but I'm currently somewhat stressed out with catching up from being sick (dirty house and laundry, I'm looking at you) and Christmas preparations, I only seem to manage to do comfort writing.

Thanks! Actually I attended a board meeting in the evening, but I had no energy whatever to chair the meeting, which I usually do, so I insisted somebody else do it. I was just exhausted.

Comfort writing sounds good in the circumstances. : )

Sorry to hear about your family dog - that is so tough. We had to put our cocker spaniel to sleep at the age of eleven when his kidneys failed, he’d been sort of okay for a while but then got really miserable and although it was the right time it was still very sad.

Our dog was really healthy for being so old! At 14 years old, he could still do a walk of 5 km. He's been running free in the forest much of his life, so he was quite fit, but of course it's also luck for having avoided various diseases/accidents. But yeah, you still grieve, even if it's the right decision.

Dec 12: Some editing, some rewriting, and some new words!

He was a very well-loved dog! Mom often said that I was his favorite human, perhaps because I cuddled him so much. And in general he had a very good life, running free in the forest a lot. He did not, however, appreciate my parents getting a puppy 1,5 years ago. They are both uncastrated male dogs and as he got older, he was more and more aggressive towards the young dog (who returned it), in my interpretation because he feared losing status as he grew weaker. We decided that he should never have to experience that, and they were kept apart and he was staying with me the last week before he got that stroke. I'm glad we had that week.

On Day 12, I wrote what may or may not be our holiday card poem. It's a significant departure from earlier endeavors, so I'm going to run it by the spouse to see what he thinks.

Thanks! <3 He wasn't my dog technically, but I was totally part of his flock: I spend a lot of time with my parents in the summer and on weekends, and mom often said that I was his favorite human, perhaps because I cuddled him so much.

(I'm told that the exchange community originally stole the term from baseball but also uses it rather differently)
