Recently bound books
Feb. 6th, 2024 09:36 pmI have bound some books recently! Here they are.

This is Annick Trent's The Oak and the Ash, bound for the author. This is an Italian paper, a recreation of a renaissance pattern.

Same book, but for my own bookshelf. This is my least successful one of the five, IMO--the paper on its own is lovely, but I think there's too little contrast between the cloth and the paper, and between the two colors in the pattern, for it to work. But also the light in the photo is just bad, which doesn't help! It's a handmade Nepalese Lokta paper.

A close-up of the previous book, to show the pattern better (incidentally also showing where I smudged the glue a little...).

This is
regshoe's That Loyalty of Friendship, bound for the author. Another Italian renaissance paper.

Same book, but for me. Another Nepalese Lokta paper. This one might be my favorite of the bunch! The photo doesn't quite do it justice--the paper is more rose-tinted.

And finally a blank writing book for
regshoe. Also a Nepalese Lokta paper.

Date: 2024-02-06 08:59 pm (UTC)I should take some photos of the volume you did for me; I never did a proper post here. I do show it off to every person who enters the house who could possibly understand what a wonderful gift it is. <3

All the Renaissance designs are great; the first one made me want to stand up and cheer.
Thanks for introducing me to Lokta paper -- I bet they feel lovely.

Date: 2024-02-10 05:37 pm (UTC)I have been keeping my new books out to admire them all week, but I must find a place in my bookshelf for 'That Loyalty of Friendship' soon :D
The Nepalese Lotka papers do look like they have a lovely texture, and I like the colours on that first one, even if it didn't work brilliantly in context.
Have you looked into stamping the titles/authors' names on the spines? I do not know how that is done or how feasible it would be—it occurs to me because of what I was saying about the FotH ebook and its cover.

Date: 2024-02-10 07:18 pm (UTC)I have, though not recently--it seems there are various different ways of doing it, but back when I was looking at it, I decided not to pursue it. I can't remember if that was because of expensive or difficult to obtain equipment, perhaps.
