*examines tags* Oh, this is the transportation story! Somehow I'd gotten it mixed up with Ewen's Bisexual Backstory. Major Character Death, eh? I'm going to have to strap myself in good and tight for this one. ;-)

It is the transportation story! Ewen's Bisexual Backstory is currently dormant in my WIP folder and will be more of a short one-off, or at least shorter than 10K, while this one will be at least 50K.

Er, and I'm sorry about the Major Character Death! That is the way the story came into my brain...I think the canonical Major Character Death has made me much more amenable to experimenting with similar storylines in fic, where different characters die. As well as happily-ever-after endings, of course! I couldn't do it if I didn't have those too.

I agree, the source canonically being a tragedy -- and that working for a good number of us -- leaves a lot of space to play with alternative tragic endings. One of my favorite things you've ever written is the one where Ewen is executed, and one of my favorites of regshoe's is the one where the name "Keith" carries its own prophetic legacy down the generations. And of course there's the one of garonne's with Keith and Alison after Ewen's execution!

So, yes, I'll have to strap myself in good for this, but... Eh, when I give fic recs for this fandom, I divide them into two classes, "wallow-in-its" and "fix-its". Because sometimes what I want is to wallow around in the crunchy grief of it all, and it's nice to have fic options for doing that!
