Wow, that's quite a lot. *basks in accomplishment*
I actually have fewer stories this year as opposed to last year, but that's because I've written longer stories this year, not because I've been writing less. Three of them are around 10 000 words, and I'm pretty happy with this development. Another trend seems to be that I have fewer and shorter F/K stories, and have instead explored other pairings, or written gen stories. (Although more of my snippets are F/K, so perhaps there's just another outlet for the F/K stuff.)
Podfic-wise, I participated in
amplificathon this year, which resulted in lots of rare fandom podfics. That's the reason there are fewer due South podfics this year. The last couple of months of the year there was almost no podficcing, on account of the ever-lasting cold of doom. /o\
My best story(ies) of this year: Oof, this is hard for me to answer--I feel like I don't have enough distance to my own writing to pick out which story is the best. Going by audience response, it's the post-CotW first time F/K story, but that probably just reflects the popularity of that particular genre (although I am happy with the story). I think I'm actually most proud of Into the Wild, which is a rewriting of Victoria's Secret and the events that led up to it in an alternate universe where they're both shapeshifters. That story really works for me. Another reason to be proud of it is that it's the first time I wrote Ray Vecchio (in a supporting role, but still), and I'm happy with how that came out.
Out of the podfics, it's easier: I think my best podfic this year is the Lord of the Rings story Lomendánar (Little Love for the Things of My Love). I still listen to it myself now and then. Other podfics that came out well are In the House of Dust and The Story of Marli-hrair and the Black Rabbit of Inlé.
My favourite story of this year: Arrgh, also a hard question. I'm tempted to give the same answer as for the best story. Although I'm also very fond of the two ice age fics, The Snow and the Leaves and Together.
Among the podfics, I suppose my favorite is Real Worlds, partly because it's the longest one I've recorded so far (over five hours!), and partly because I love the story so much. I really can't tell if I did it justice, though, which is why I'm not listing it under "best".
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Into the Wild, definitely--it only had three people commenting on it (although I've also gotten some feedback via other means). But strangely enough, I don't mind it much, even though I picked this as my best story of the year. Maybe writing the story was its own reward.
Among the podfics, most of the rare fandom ones didn't get any feedback. But this was offset by the few that did--it's fun to see someone overjoyed because there's a podfic in their particular tiny fandom.
Most fun story to write: Definitely this year's post-CotW first time F/K story. It felt so relaxing to just write about something I know. There were all sorts of details from this year's dogsledding trip that went into this story. Oh, and Dialogue was fun, too--it's a dialogue-only sex scene in 300 words.
The most fun podfic might be Odd Man Out (Wilby Wonderful). It was a lot of fun to read Emily POV.
Sexiest story: Huh, I don't know. Maybe the bondage porn? The sexiest podfic is probably Watching.
Story with the single sexiest moment: I think it's the sleepy sex in Shared Warmth.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Possibly turning Fraser into a zombie? Although I'm blaming that on Aka. (And honestly, I was pretty satisfied with that snippet.)
Podfic-wise, it's probably recording (intentional) badfic. Hee, that was fun. Meg Thatcher/James Bond 4evah. *g*
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Well, if you write a long fic about a character whom you haven't written much before, you're bound to learn something new about them. So in this year's stories, I guess I learned most about Victoria, Maggie and Frannie. Especially Victoria, although it was an AU version of her.
Hardest story to write: I suppose it's cheating to pick one of my WIP:s? I mean, there's a reason they're not finished yet. Out of the posted fics, the hardest to write was the casefic aspects of the Maggie/Frannie fic, and also the military school aspects of the Depot fic (because it's such a foreign environment to me).
Biggest Disappointment: I don't think there's anything I'm really disappointed in. I have vague feelings of is-this-really-doing-what-I-want-it-to-do with both the fics that are listed under "Hardest story to write", but I can't figure out whether that's based in something specific or if it's just general garden-variety insecurity.
Podfic-wise, it's my complete failure to find a good voice for Curtis in my Twitch City podficlet. (I can't read Darren, either--what is up with that?)
Biggest Surprise: Definitely nova. I was very happy that I could write something that wasn't due South (although I do also have a short Generation Kill WIP). Among the due South stories, I guess it's the genderfuck femslash in -2Y + 2X? It kind of popped up out of nowhere when I read the prompt on
ds_kinkmeme.
Podfic-wise, it's that I could so easily read Hard Core Logo fic (I mean, I could never write HCL).
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Hmm, hm. I don't know? Maybe I'm not self-aware enough to answer this. *g*
Oh, wait, I totally know the answer to this question on the podfic side. It's the one with the ents lamenting the fallen forests. I had no problem at all reading that with feeling. OTOH, that's what made the podfic good, I think.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? About what I'd hoped, I suppose. Although I'm always surprised when things go well, writing-wise.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2009? Fraser/Victoria. I've always found that pairing interesting, but never thought I could write it before.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? See under hardest stories, I guess. Hmm, and I've maybe learned to have patience with writing longer stories.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? Well, as always, I have several WIP:s I'd like to finish. Of these, two have finished drafts, but FRTDNEATJ I've had problems with them. And there's also the Big Bang story, of course. Huh, now that I think about it, I probably have almost 30 000 words worth of WIP:s.
