luzulaIf you're wondering why I'm posting so much lately, it's because I'm alone with a dog, I think. I think I needed that. Time on my own + cuddly dog = perfect!
Anyway, my big bang fic just went over the 14,000 word mark, and I think I need a beta to take a look at it. I don't need line-by-line beta reading yet (I'll save word choice and grammar and stuff like that for later) but what I do need is someone to look at the big picture, and see if it's shaping up well, or if there are structural issues I need to fix. I've never written something this long.
It's a post-CotW established-relationship F/K story, and it's basically about Ray's problems with adjusting to life in the north, the impact that has on his and Fraser's relationship, and how Ray eventually goes to Depot and becomes a Mountie. Also, I'd originally meant to have alternating sections between that story, and a casefic set ten years in the future with them working as partners, but as I've now written 13,000 words of the first story, and only 1200 words of the second one (most of which are sex), I don't know if that will actually happen. Hmm, I could use some advice on that, too.

Date: 2010-02-18 12:22 pm (UTC)As far as advice, I'd say if you think the first part of the story could use another 7000 words, then go for it (even if it means losing the sex scene until later).
Ahaha. I have no problem sacrificing the sex scene. It's so much harder for me to write case stuff (which actually needs a plot) than sex.
oh, and we should probably match up at some point about BP stuff, figure out the hotel and all, yes?
Yeah, we should do that. I get to Seattle late Wednesday night (to have time to get over some of the jetlag), and I'm planning to get to the BP hotel on Friday evening, I think. How about you?

Date: 2010-02-18 04:58 pm (UTC)And cutting my fic into sections has made me MUCH less anxious about getting it done, so that's good. I still write bits for the later seasons when inspiration strikes, but am trying to focus on the ep I'm supposed to be reworking.
I get to Seattle late Wednesday night Okay, so you get in on the 7th? Cool! I do too, and a friend is coming to stay with me (she lives about 3 hours away) and leaves Friday evening. So I could get a room for she and I, and then you and Ande could join me Friday.
