Thank you!
Jan. 11th, 2008 04:47 pmFor me, More Joy Day coincided with my Ph D defense, so it was a time when I really needed some encouragement, and I so appreciated the gifts people sent me! I got that adorable polar bear, and a scroll with a snippet about Caroline and Ben which I loved--it's short, but bittersweet. Given my fascination with the Fraser family, it was the perfect gift. Also, someone gave me two months paid LJ time! Thank you so much, whoever you are. : )
My defense went all right, I think. In Sweden, the opponent does most of the presentation, and to be honest, my opponent was not the most pedagogically talented person, which was a pity. Of course, it let me shine by comparison. : ) And the questions were not so hard--I think they're mostly harder in the social sciences, where you have differences in ideology and interpretation to deal with, than in math, where you can mostly ask "Did you think about applying/generalizing your results this way?". And then I reply either: "Yes, that's what I'm planning to do next." or "No, that's an interesting question, I'll think about it."
