I've spent the holidays hanging out with my parents and sister, eating lots of good food, going skiing, and reading dSSS and Yuletide fic. It's been very relaxing.

This worked surprisingly well if one person skied in front of the dog, because then he'd follow that person. I think he enjoyed it, too, because when we go walking with him, he thinks we're far too slow, but our skiing speed is the same as his natural trotting speed. Sometimes he'd gallop, and I'd just hang on for the ride. *g* Of course, sometimes he was distracted and went the wrong way or got tangled up in my skis (a sled dog he is not) but on the whole it was fun.

For Yuletide, I wrote The Story of Hrayatha and the Rabbit Who Left No Tracks in the Watership Down fandom (1700 words, gen, PG). It was fun to write, and I also got to reread the book, which is never a hardship. My recipient wanted Hazel/Pipkin, which I didn't quite manage, but it's at least possible to read that into the fic. Beta thanks goes to [personal profile] akamine_chan! This was my first year participating in Yuletide, and it really has been fun to write something outside my usual fandom. Also, I saw several people reccing it! \o/

For dSSS, I wrote The Best Policy (6700 words, F/K, PG-13), which has got 1) a case 2) first-time F/K romance and 3) Fraser working on his relationship with his dad. I had a bit of trouble at first with balancing out these three strands, but I got awesome beta help with that (thanks to [personal profile] springwoof and [livejournal.com profile] mizface!). Also, a big thank you to [personal profile] spuffyduds, who read a half-done draft and reassured me that it didn't suck. I am now reasonably happy with the fic, though it's not one of the stories closest to my heart. Apparently it was hard to guess which fic was mine. *g* People guessed on five different fics, and only Aka got it right, but that was only because the author's notes on my dSSS and my Yuletide fic were so similar.

Also, I now know that [archiveofourown.org profile] masterofmidgets wrote the Pancho and Lefty story I got for Yuletide, and [personal profile] andeincascade wrote the Benton/Mark backstory I got for dSSS. I loved both stories so much! Thank you. &hearts &hearts &hearts

ETA: I almost forgot! I also got the Yuletide treat Should the Kingdom Fall from [personal profile] keerawa. It's an intriguing Hadestown story, and I'm delighted that there is now fic for this album. Thank you!

I thought it was funny that the two Pancho and Lefty stories for this Yuletide were both received by people on my flist - you and [personal profile] sionnain!

And yay for holidays!

This looks like SO MUCH FUN! I am so glad you had a good holiday season. I look forward to catching up a bit with you in the next few weeks as things settle down post holidays.

I loved the story you received for dSSS, but I haven't even had a chance to read the one you wrote yet. I'm still nibbling away. :)

I haven't even opened Yuletide yet. I always have a short list of things I wish for, and I don't even know yet if I lucked out in any of my wishes.

I'm only getting through maybe 1 dSSS story a day, so maybe I'll finish by Valentine's Day.
