Photos from up in the mountains
Apr. 27th, 2011 03:55 pmI'm back from the mountains, and feeling much better in every way. We had great weather (I now have lots of freckles on my nose, and my hands got sunburned because I forgot to put suntan lotion on them), the snow conditions were good, my sister wasn't too hampered by her cold, and I didn't catch the cold. It was great to spend time with her and to be outside so much, and I think my neck and shoulders benefited from the exercise.
Watch me make like a sled dog! I tried using a pulka instead of a backpack, and after I'd adjusted the harness properly, I quite liked it. It's more work for your legs and arms, but no weight pressing down on your shoulders and back. Also, check out my old eighties-colored skis and ski boots. *g*

The snow is beginning to melt on the tops of the hills, and a week or so later, you probably won't be able to ski here. Those are mountain birches, Betula pubescens ssp tortuosa.

The north and south Syter peaks, on either side of the valley Syterskalet (which is one of Sweden's largest glacier-formed valleys--note the distinctive U-shape). The north peak, which is the one just to the left of the cairn, is 1768 meters above sea level (5800 feet), and I ascended it maybe ten years ago. Also note my sister lying in the sun--she's the red patch.

Reindeer tracks, searching out the bare patches (although I don't see how they find enough food to survive when nothing's started growing yet). The reindeer spend the winter down in the forest and come up in the mountains when it gets warmer. Apparently these ones decided it was warm enough.

Some lovely cirrus clouds in the sunset.

Also, I just realized that I've fretted so much about writing my Remix fic that I've forgotten that I'm going to receive one, too! I really look forward to that--I love being remixed. It's like getting in-depth feedback, in a way.
