Follow-up from last post: here is me singing the old melody and lyrics of Both Sides the Tweed, from the 18th or early 19th century. Could not find it anywhere on Youtube, and thought some of you might want to hear it...it's just the first verse + chorus though. I do like the two last lines!

Ah, I see from jesse_the_k's comment that it is in fact called glissando.

It is not vibrato, anyway--that's when you stay on one note, but let your voice/instrument sort of hover up and down around it. Like in a lot of opera singing?

I'm not sure about glissando, either--that's when you glide from note to note, whereas what I was at least trying to do in the last line is to sing several notes rapidly in a row.

Then there's another thing which is common in folk music, which is called "förslag" in Swedish, but I don't know the English name. It's when a main note is preceded by a short other note which you don't put any emphasis on--you can see this in the musical notation because the note is typeset with a smaller size.

It might be called a "slide"? (I mean the thing you called "förslag".) But I never understood which is which among taps, cuts, slides, rolls, etc.

That's true. I actually didn't think of that... You have re-wired my brain to believe that the Jacobites won, Neil is still alive, etc.! *g*
