Our CSA delivers them still on the stalk. On the one hand, you can do all the finicky business of cutting each sprout free of the stalk in the warmth and comfort of one's own home. I would say "on the other hand, one has to find something capable of cutting through that woody stalk", but then I imagine the CSA people out their swinging machetes around, and revise my opinion: that, too, goes in the plus column of bringing them inside to harvest. ;-)

Fried with butter, salt, and molasses also sounds tasty!

I imagine it saves the CSA some labor to deliver them on the stalk, as well as letting the recipients learn more about how it grows.

If I were to cut it off, I would use loppers. : ) (A word I learned just now by looking it up; it's literally "branch scissors" in Swedish.) And leave the roots in the ground, because it's beneficial for the soil.
