Hmm, what should I write next?
Jun. 12th, 2010 11:19 pmNow that I'm done with my Big Bang, I'm itching to write something else! Here are some of my current ideas:
- The next installment in my series about Fraser's youth (the first are Leaving Home and Depot). It would be about Fraser's first posting, and I have some ideas for it, but I haven't planned it out. I'm pretty sure it would come together if I started writing it, though.
- More werewolf fic! This one would be a casefic with Bob, Buck and werewolf!Caroline in the late fifties, before Fraser was born. I totally love this idea, but I suspect it would need a fair amount of research (although I've already read some books that are good background for this). There would be Bob and Buck partnership, and Caroline would be awesome.
- A superpower F/K AU, in which Fraser and Ray work at the Department of Magical Crimes. This would be fairly easy to write, I think (if I don't get stuck on the casefic aspects). The worldbuilding would be fun, and I've already written a little bit of it.
- I've got an old WIP which is a Fraser/Thatcher genderfuck story, where Fraser is turned into a woman and solves a case together with Thatcher. Or actually, it's more of a gen story that focuses on their working relationship, with about the same amount of UST as in the show. I'd really like to finish it, but I've gotten hung up on the casefic plot. Maybe I should give it another try.
- A historical F/K AU, where both Fraser and Ray end up on one of the Northwest Passage expeditions. Not the Franklin one, because that would only end in angst and lead poisoning. Maybe Amundsen's expedition? Fraser could work for the Hudson's Bay company, and he'd have been brought up by his grandparents, who would have been Moravian missionaries. He could go along as a local guide and interpreter, and Ray could be a mechanic for the ship. Also, it would be cool to write this as Fraser's journal. I've certainly read enough Arctic expedition journals from this time period that I could at least attempt the style. Wow, this would need research, though.
Yeah, I think these are the story ideas I'm most interested in at the moment. Hmm, which one would you most want to read?

There's so much you can do with genderswap stories besides hot sex scenes (although I have to admit that this story was first inspired by an image of female!Fraser making out with Thatcher on her desk, even if that later disappeared from the story). I keep coming back to that line in "All the Queen's Horses":
What makes you think we're so different? You graduated first of your class, and so did I. You received medals for your field work, so did I. You wear red serge, I wear red serge, the only difference between us is you're a woman and I'm not.
I don't really agree that that's the only difference between them, but turning Fraser into a woman is interesting to explore, anyway.
