I've never actually read any of the Anne of Green Gables books. This makes me wonder if I should... :P

Sadly, it's not what it sounds like--what they're actually doing is cooing over a baby. I really can't believe someone would write that sentence and not think of the innuendo, though.

I have a certain weakness for L. M. Montgomery, especially all the female friendship (though my favorite of hers is the Emily series). If you like audiobooks, Karen Savage, who is one of my favorite readers at Librivox, has recorded the first three books in the Anne of Green Gables series. The first one is here, if you're interested.

Hee! I was a big LM Montgomery fan as a child, and found this kind of thing somewhat confusing. At one point I kissed a friend's little sister and said I loved her (in a very Anne-ish kind of way), and after that, no one in their family ever spoke to me. In retrospect I find this amusing -- at the time, I was just befuddled.

I could ship it. IIRC, Leslie was very intense and a little emo in her friendship with Anne. Of course, Gilbert and Anne are still newlyweds and one wouldn't want to break that up, but they could be poly.

Yeah, I can see it, too. There's definitely something intense about their friendship--it's that sort of friendship which is almost like a crush. And Anne is really fascinated by Leslie's beauty.

This is up there with the bits in Emily series where Dean keeps offering to teach Emily how to make love realistically. *g*

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure Dean actually means that in the way it sounds. Except, you know, that he'll wait until she's older. I go back and forth on Dean--sometimes I think he's creepy, and sometimes I think it's good for Emily to have intellectual companionship.
