Title: Out From Under
Author: [livejournal.com profile] brigantine1
Fandom: Crossover between due South and Men With Guns
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG-13
Format: mp3, 128 mbps
Notes: Thanks to the author for letting me record it, and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] malnpudl for tracking down the correct pronunciation of "Mamet" for me! This is probably the most challenging podfic I've recorded so far, but I couldn't resist giving it a try. I'm not convinced I did it justice, but I did my best. When I first read it, this story just grabbed hold of me and didn't let go. What had happened to Ray here almost broke my heart. But don't let that stop you from reading/listening to it--I promise there isn't just angst in this.

I'll be recording [livejournal.com profile] brigantine's awesome dS/Men With Guns crossover Out From Under for my next podfic project. The thing is, I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know how to pronounce "Mamet". MAY-met, MAH-met, mam-ET, mam-EH? [livejournal.com profile] brigantine thought it was MAH-met but wasn't sure, as it's only said once or so in the movie.

Does anyone know? Sorry to be spamming you all...

My first C6D podfic! \o/

Title: Vinculum
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sageness
Fandom: Wilby Wonderful
Pairing: Duck/Dan
Rating: NC-17
Format: mp3, 128 kbps
Notes: This was the first WW story I read after watching the movie, and it slid right into canon for me. The backstory feels just right for Dan, and so does the quiet tone of the story. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sageness for letting me record it, and for beta-listening!

Part 1: 28.40 minutes, 26.3 mb. Download at Sendspace.
Part 2: 26.27 minutes, 24.2 mb. Download at Sendspace.
The whole thing as one file: 55.07 minutes, 50.5 mb, download at Sendspace.

Oh, and in the interests of collecting the fannish stuff I do in my journal, I posted some recs at [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux.

[livejournal.com profile] zabira and [livejournal.com profile] meresy poked me and said I should watch Hard Core Logo right now (or, well, two hours ago). So I did. I don't know why I haven't watched it before, really--I just never got around to it.

I'm too tired for long analysis, even if I were capable of it (which I'm not). So here are some jumbled thoughts: I was really moved. And completely shocked by the ending, which was done to great effect and which I was unspoiled for. The Joe/Billy relationship was so touching, because it really felt like they had history together. Everything was so...tangled up. And fucked up. My sympathies kept shifting between Joe and Billy, and the manipulating director thing was so well done in a meta sense (but felt really cruel in the story).

If someone could point me towards some fic recs, that would be great. I'll probably start with [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds long April Fools thing.

Also: CKR = so fucking hot here. Especially in the black and white shots. Yeah, I know that isn't news to anyone.

Hmm. I can't really see how there could be a sequel, though.

Also, sadly, I am canceling my trip to CanCon. I've admitted to myself that it's unrealistic travel-wise. The thing is, I'm doing fieldwork in the mountains in the north of Sweden in the summer, and finish just before CanCon. I'd have to be flown out by helicopter, then take the train for over 24 hours, sleep a night at home, and then fly to Canada the next morning. It just won't work. Or at least, I'd be half-dead with travel. : (

I've finally gotten around to watching Wilby Wonderful! This was instead of packing for my dogsledding trip, so I'll have to do that tomorrow. I liked the movie a lot--it was just very human, and I liked how slow it was. There were moments when I went "awww" and others when I went "yay!!" and others where I was making worried noises. I loved how the camera went wandering during tense scenes so we couldn't see what happened.

It didn't immediately make me want to write, though. I guess I just need to feel that I've known characters a while before I try that.

Tomorrow at work I will abuse my printing privileges and print out some of the WW stories [livejournal.com profile] nos4a2no9 recced, to take with me on my 24 hour train journey. I have other unread goodies, as well, like [livejournal.com profile] china_shop's The Sweet Hereafter, and a selection of Yuletide fics. Mmm, I like overnight train journeys. I'll try to do some longhand writing, too.

Also, I have lately been writing genderfuck Fraser/Thatcher set in S2. That pairing just suddenly became interesting (and hot) to me when I turned Fraser into a woman. Yeah, one more WIP. Of course, I also have a WIP which is pretty close to completion, so it evens out...
