Here's a little birthday podfic of [livejournal.com profile] troyswann/Salieri's Night is the Colour of a Self, which is a flashfic with Fraser, Kowalski and Dief. It has a lovely eerie feeling and awesome landscape description.

Oh, and go and check out the lovely Luzula she drew for me, too! I am tempted to change my icon, which I have not ever done.

Title: Pacta Sunt Servanda
Author: [livejournal.com profile] arrow00
Reader: [personal profile] luzula
Fandom: due South
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 15 m 37 s
Author's summary: War breaks out.
Notes: I'm grateful to [personal profile] malnpudl for listening and assuring me that my voice didn't sound too scratchy (it always gets a bit rough in the winter). Thanks to the author for the blanket permission.

Putting this one up streaming since it's fairy short (but you can download if you want, of course):

Title: How The Ray Was Won
Author: [personal profile] catwalksalone
Reader: [personal profile] luzula
Fandom: due South
Pairing: Kowalski/Vecchio
Rating: PG
Length: 55 m 26 s
Author's summary: See title. Or. One name, two men, three tasks and a motif. Or several.
Notes: This was a bit tricky to record because it's a story about people telling a story, and I was unsure of whether to separate the storytelling bits with some kind of sound cue, but I finally decided not to. I'm grateful to [personal profile] crinklysolution for beta listening and assuring me that the structure wasn't confusing in audio form, and for catching a couple of mispronunciations. Also, with this podfic I feel like I really learned to read Frannie, so yay for that! My Vecchio and Kowalski still sound too similar, though, but I hope you are still happy with this, Ande. Thanks to the author for the blanket permission.

Title: Come With Me
Author: [personal profile] zabira
Reader: [personal profile] luzula
Fandom: due South
Pairing: Victoria Metcalf/Benton Fraser
Rating: PG-13
Length: 1 h 11 m 42 s
Author's summary: Late at night, lying awake listening to the hollow sounds of the sleeping prison, her mind was irresistibly drawn to him.
Notes: This is the essential Victoria story for me--she's mostly seen through other people's eyes in fic, but in this story she really comes alive. This is the last of the stories I recorded this summer up in the mountains, and the background sounds during the storm scene are from an actual Arctic storm. *g* . The podfic also includes a deleted scene. Thanks to the author for her blanket permission!

Recorded for [community profile] ladiesbigbang. [personal profile] mific has made awesome complement art for this, including a podbook cover (also see [personal profile] mific's post about the art):

Happy birthday, [personal profile] helens78! You've brought me so much joy with your recording of my Shifter stories that I wanted to give you something back. I recorded this up in the mountains, and I've sat on it for two months--see, I am good at keeping secrets. : )

I hope you're having a good birthday! *hugs*

Title: What's a Good Friend to Do?
Author: [personal profile] helens78
Reader: [personal profile] luzula
Fandom: due South
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 1 h 19 m 36 s
Author's summary: Fraser gets hit with some kind of mysterious powder! All of a sudden, Fraser needs sex. A lot of sex.
Notes: I've recorded so much gen lately that I've almost forgotten how much I enjoy recording porn. And this story is pretty much one long sex scene, so that worked out well. *g* I also really enjoyed reading in Ray POV.

Title: Depot
Author and reader: [personal profile] luzula
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Eric Kitikmeot, but mostly gen
Rating: PG-13
Length: 1 h 1 m 1 s
Summary: Benton Fraser's time at Depot and just after. Warning for canonical character death. This is the sequel to Leaving Home, also available as a podfic. I recommend listening to that first, but you can listen to this separately if you want.

Weirdly, my grandmother died while I was recording this fic (in which Martha Fraser dies). She was 95 and had a minor heart attack recently, so it wasn't unexpected. She was...not at all like Martha Fraser, actually. I visited her last in August, when I was down in the south to be with my family. She was always so positive in her outlook, even when she was confused about who I was and how old she herself was. And the night before she died, Mom and Dad were there with her, and she was so happy that they were there and that everyone at the hospital were so good to her, and even flirted with one of the male nurses. I will miss her. A couple of years ago, Dad recorded lots of tapes of her telling the story of her life, and I'm going to listen to those and remember her.

So, um, if you just followed the link to get the podfic, feel free to just grab it.

Happy birthday, Ande! I wish you many good things today and in the year to come. *hugs you tight*

I hope you like this! I even did stealthy research (via Aka) to see if you were a fan of crossdressing. : )

Title: Volcanic Geranium
Author: [personal profile] zelempa
Reader: [personal profile] luzula
Fandom: due South
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: R
Length: 2 h 21 m 36 s
Author's summary: Fraser raised his eyebrows thoughtfully. "Lipstick colour names can be rather obscure. I assume it's a metaphor to describe something fragile and lovely but also dangerous and potentially capable of raining hot destruction upon an unsuspecting citizenry. On the other hand, it may refer to the fact that this particular coral shade is common to molten lava and geraniums. Don't lick it."

"It tastes like Jujubes," Ray reported.

"Nevertheless, resist the urge."

Notes: Oof, this one was a challenge. The very thing I love about this story--the comedy and the snappy dialogue--was what made it hard to record. I don't think I've ever done so many retakes. Still, it's fun to stretch yourself and try something new. Thanks to the author for letting me record it!

Yeah, I'm probably crazy to record another podfic just before I'm leaving. I was going to take a break after Amplificathon, but it seems to have become a habit (or possibly a compulsion).

Also, on the subject of podfic, [personal profile] helens78 is making me so happy with this! Wow, I love her reading.

Title: Leaving Home
Author and reader: [personal profile] luzula
Fandom: due South
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Eric Kitikmeot (although it's more of a Fraser-centric story, really).

Smmary: The year that Benton turned eighteen, the highway finally reached Inuvik, and he followed it due south.

Title: The Sweet Hereafter
Author: [personal profile] china_shop
Reader: [personal profile] luzula
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: R
Length: 4 h 57 m 51 s
Author's summary: Aside from the lack of communication, now that I've had a chance to experience death I find it not so very different from living in Canada.
Notes: I love this story (and [personal profile] china_shop's writing in general). It has a pretty cool and original plot which is very much in line with the feeling of the show--it's cracky and funny in places, but also serious. Thanks to the author for letting me record it!

Taking a break from a longer podfic to do something smaller. I got the idea for this from [personal profile] keerawa's podfic snippet collections, which I recced the other week. Also, I did my final set of recs for [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux yesterday.

Title: Glimpses of Fraser family history
Author and reader: [personal profile] luzula
Fandom: due South
Characters and pairings: Fraser family gen (also including Martha Fraser/George Fraser, Bob Fraser/Caroline Fraser, and Benton Fraser/Eric Kitikmeot)
Rating: PG-13
Content notes: Child abuse (in Martha Fraser's childhood), mention of canonical character death, the butchering of a deer.
Length: 19 m 1 s
Notes: This is a collection of eleven snippets written for [livejournal.com profile] ds_snippets, all focusing on Fraser family history, and read as a single podfic. They're arranged chronologically, from Martha Fraser's childhood to Benton Fraser's first kiss. You can find them all under the heading "Snippets about the Fraser family" on my fic index.

Title: And these are all for you
Author: [personal profile] innocentsmith
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski, Fraser/other canon characters
Rating: PG
Length: 56 m 25 s
Author's summary: The loves Fraser's been offered.
Notes: I love this story so much--the Fraser POV is awesome, and there's so much great backstory. (Also, I get to sing folk songs.) Thanks to the author for letting me record it!

Fandom: Master and Commander gen
Rating: R, I would guess

Title: I'll Show You Mine If You Show Me Yours
Author: [personal profile] helens78
Reader: [personal profile] luzula
Fandom: due South
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 42 m 47 s
Author's summary: Fraser keeps coming to work looking beaten and bruised, but when Ray notices Fraser's hands are all scraped up, too, he does a little investigation. Finding the club where Fraser's been getting those bruises leads to a lot of interesting mutual revelations.
Notes: Recorded for the author, for [community profile] help_pakistan. It was a pleasure to read, and thanks for bidding for me! For content notes, check the link to the story above.

Title: The Reaching Out One
Author: [livejournal.com profile] alex51324
Reader: [personal profile] luzula
Fandom: due South
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 6 h 10 m 35 s
Author's summary: It's ten years after the events of CoTW (in other words, the present day). After the Quest, Fraser and Ray went back to their regular lives--Fraser as a Mountie in Deline, NWT and Ray as a detective in Chicago, IL. Every year they take their vacation time together and look for the hand of Franklin, the reaching out one, and when they run out of time they put a pin in the map and the next year they pick up where they left off. The story begins when Diefenbaker dies and the whole house of cards crumbles. Ray and Fraser have an adventure, confront their feelings, and rebuild their lives on a more solid foundation.

Notes: This is a post-CotW story that feels fresh and new, and I love it to pieces. I'm afraid the recording is a bit uneven, though. I first started it back in October last year, but then I had a cold that lasted for five months, and then came Amplificathon. Now that I listen to the bits I did last fall, I notice that my reading style has changed, partly because of taking singing lessons, and partly because I've speeded up a bit. Also, I've been moving around, so there are different acoustics in different parts of the story. But I don't seem to have the energy to re-record the first half (especially since I already had to do some re-recording because of lost files). Whew, this was a long project. Thanks to the author for letting me record it!

Download part one and part two at Sendspace. (It's in eight mp3 files, but I can't upload it all in one zip file--it's too big.)

Title: Sixteenth of June
Author: [personal profile] resonant
Reader: [personal profile] luzula
Fandom: due South
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 1 h 14 m 26 s
Author's summary: Fraser keeps an eye on Ray for signs of a broken heart.
Notes: This one's a classic. I think the part I enjoyed most here was doing an impression of Bob Fraser singing "Danny Boy" pitched too high for his voice. *g* Thanks to the author for the blanket permission!

Title: Quiet In Drowning
Author: [personal profile] nos
Reader: [personal profile] luzula
Fandom: Wilby Wonderful
Characters: Duck, Buddy, OMCs
Rating: NC-17
Length: 57 m 07 s
Author's warning: This story contains graphic, violent and disturbing subject matter, including non-con.
Author's summary: It rained the morning Duck McDonald left home.
Notes: This is not exactly a happy story, but there's hope at the end, and I can imagine that something like this did happen to Duck. I hope I did it justice. Thanks to the author for letting me record it!

All right, these are my [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon podfics, sorted into convenient categories. The links go to the amplificathon posts, and you can scroll down to the comments to find permanent links, if the temporary ones have expired. I've marked with an asterisk the ones I think can be listened to even if you don't know the canon at all (although it's hard to draw the line sometimes).

Also, consider all of these podfics as story recs, as well! I love all these stories. If you're wondering why there are only three due South stories in here, that's because the challenge is geared toward rare fandoms. Due South is one of the three fandoms that have the most podfic, and so gives very little points. Apparently I do care about the points, but I don't think I'm going to end up in the top three this year. The competition was fierce.

I'm kind of relieved that it's over. Maybe I'll do some other podfic project for next year's contest, but I'm not doing this kind of point-maximizing again (not that I did that, exactly--to maximize points, one would read lots of drabbles). I think my reading has gotten better, though--this has given me a lot of practise at reading different kinds of characters and fandoms. So I don't regret it. My singing lessons have been helping a lot, too, in giving my voice more support.

Feedback makes me happy (although a simple comment telling me what you're downloading makes me happy, too)! I think my reading has speeded up some--please tell me what you think of that.

A whole lot of podfics in wildly diverse fandoms )

And yeah, I know it looks like I'm only recording short and/or experimental podfic nowadays, but I do have a long project, which I'm about halfway through. I have no idea when it'll be done, though.

Title: The Contents of a Small Box Stored in a Large Trunk in a Yukon Cabin
Author: [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o
Readers: [personal profile] luzula and [personal profile] podcath
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: About PG, I suppose
Format: mp3 (192 kbps) and m4b
Length: 6 m 58 s
Reader's notes: We were actually in the same room doing this, which felt weird at first, but I quickly got used to it. This is an epistolary story, so there are two clear POV:s. I read Fraser, and Cath reads Kowalski, and it was a lot of fun to react to the other person's reading in real time. Cover by [personal profile] podcath.
